For Alice Namutebi, a bright but struggling student from Kampala, Uganda, academic life had always been a challenge. Throughout her first years at Makerere University, she found herself falling behind her classmates despite putting in long hours of study. “I used to sit in lectures, take notes, and revise endlessly, but my results never reflected my efforts,” Alice recalls. “I was often at the bottom of the class, and my confidence was low. I even started thinking I would never succeed.”
Alice tried everything she could think of to improve her grades hiring tutors, forming study groups, attending extra classes but nothing seemed to work. She watched as her peers excelled while she struggled, and at times, she felt like giving up entirely. “It was frustrating.
