The incident, which occurred on Monday, May 19, has sparked widespread condemnation across the country.
The chaos began after students took to the streets to protest what they described as the autocratic leadership of the institution’s Chief Principal, Tom Mulati.
What started as a peaceful demonstration quickly escalated after police officers arrived at the scene and responded with what many have called an excessive and brutal show of force.
A particularly alarming video, shared online by Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi, shows a uniformed police officer kicking and beating an unarmed female student dressed in a red top and black trousers.
The young woman appears defenseless as she is surrounded by armed officers, with no effort made to de-escalate the situation.
MP Amisi strongly condemned the assault, calling it an unjustified act of aggression against innocent students. He warned that Kitale is known for resistance and advised authorities to approach the region with caution and respect.
He further demanded that such abuse of power must stop immediately and called for accountability within the National Police Service.
Citizens and human rights advocates have also urged the government to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure justice is served.
This incident has once again reignited the debate around police brutality in Kenya, particularly the force used during student protests. Many are now demanding reforms to ensure student rights and freedoms are protected during demonstrations.
