Grief as Teacher collapses and dies while playing football with children in Nairobi

Authorities have launched investigations into two tragic incidents in Nairobi that claimed the lives of a schoolteacher and a teenager.

In the first case, a teacher at Nadhir Integrated Academy, James Mathenge, collapsed and died while participating in a football session with students at the Sir Ali Muslim Academy grounds in Pangani. Mathenge had accompanied the pupils for an afternoon sports activity when he reportedly began experiencing breathing difficulties at around 3 p.m., before collapsing on the field.

He was rushed to a nearby clinic, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival. Police responded to the scene, interviewed witnesses, and transferred the body to the mortuary for a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death. The tragic incident brought the match to an abrupt end.

In a separate and equally tragic event in Dandora, a 14-year-old boy died after being electrocuted. Police reports indicate that the teenager had been asked to wash a lorry that had offloaded garbage near a petrol station. While carrying out the task, the boy stepped on an exposed live wire lying on wet ground, leading to his immediate death.

The lorry driver, unaware of the lurking hazard, had requested the boy’s help. The body was taken to the mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue into the incident.
