A fire broke out at Kirwara Boys High School in Gatanga, Murang’a County, on Wednesday afternoon, forcing students to evacuate affected areas as emergency teams rushed to contain the blaze.
Footage from the scene showed thick smoke rising over the school compound as flames engulfed a school bus and parts of several buildings.
The fire reportedly started as students were returning to the school after the mid-year holiday. It was not immediately clear what caused the blaze or whether the bus was the source of the fire.
Several buildings within the compound were also reportedly affected as efforts to prevent the flames from spreading continued.
School officials were at the scene coordinating the response, while a Murang’a County fire engine was deployed to assist in containing the fire.
Students were moved away from the affected sections of the school as emergency responders worked to bring the situation under control.
There were no immediate reports of casualties following the incident.
Authorities and the school administration had not yet issued an official statement confirming the cause of the fire or the full extent of the damage.
The incident comes amid renewed concern over fires reported at schools in different parts of the country in recent months, raising questions about student safety and emergency preparedness in learning institutions.
