Former Sports Cabinet Secretary, Hassan Wario, has been sentenced to six-year prison sentence after he was guilty of abuse of the sports office.
Judge Elizabeth Juma, while ruling the former CS, Thursday, September 16, said that Wario and his co-accused used their positions against the law.
He was, nonetheless, given an alternative to pay a Ksh3.6 million fine inability to which he will serve the prison term.
An alternate sentence was declared for his co-convict former National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) official Stephen Soi.
Soi will serve 10 years or pay a fine of Ksh84.6 million after he was found liable in five counts of corruption.
The two were seen as liable of corruption and abuse of office over the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Judge Elizabeth Juma expressed that Wario abused his office and approved the inclusion of three different people travel to Rio.
The court noted that Wario abused his office when he permitted the three to be granted stipends as a part of team Kenya.
Judge Juma said that there was a wastage of resources and the budget plan for the Olympics must be custom-made adding that not every person associated with the planning ought to have travelled.
