Eunice Otieng’s journey from homelessness to becoming a landlord is a remarkable one. In 2017, she was facing several difficulties. Her husband had left her for another woman, leaving her with substantial loans to repay. As a result, Otieng found herself in a precarious financial situation, which was exacerbated when her landlord evicted her and her baby daughter for not paying rent.

She began working as a boda boda rider during the day while doing night shifts as a nurse to repay her loans. Eventually, she saved enough money to start a small business and build her own house on a piece of land she had bought before marriage.
Otieng’s hard work and determination paid off. She not only finished building her own house but also used her savings to build rental properties, which she gifted to her five-year-old daughter. Otieng said that she wanted to make her daughter a landlady at a young age to wipe away the tears they had shed when their previous landlord locked them out of their house.
