Francis Gachuri’s journalism career began at Kenya Broadcasting Corporation in 2006, and later moved to Royal Media Services in September 2007. He is now set to take on the role of head of communication for the Minister of Interior. During his farewell speech at Royal Media Services, Gachuri reflected on his 17-year journey with the company and expressed gratitude towards his colleagues, bosses, and viewers for their support.
Gachuri reminisced on his personal milestones during his time with the company, from getting married to having children, with his eldest now in high school. He also gave a special shoutout to his colleagues Linus Kaikai, Yvonne, and Jamila Mohamed.
Kaikai, Gachuri’s boss, praised his colleague for his contribution to the media house, from his early days as a junior reporter to becoming an integral part of various news shows and on-air personality at Radio Citizen. Kaikai described Gachuri as an industry jewel and a golden boy of political journalism, and expressed his belief that the Ministry of Interior would benefit greatly from having Gachuri as their head of communication.
Yvonne Okwara, Gachuri’s colleague and friend, thanked him for his contribution to the growth of her career at Citizen TV, and expressed her happiness for him in his new role, while also expressing her sadness at not being able to see him every day.
Citizen TV also celebrated Gachuri’s journey by showcasing his growth and evolution from his first field assignment to his latest coverage of important figures in the current administration. At the end of the emotional farewell, Gachuri was gifted two Manchester United jerseys by fellow news anchor Ayub Abdikadir, and a cake was presented to him by the team.
