Murang’a town on Wednesday in the wee hours of the evening experienced a rarely drama, after those in support of the building Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Bill youth and the critics decided to take each other head on in muranga town.
In spite of the chilly and cold weather, a group of jobless youths supporting the BBI braved in what many would call insane and marched in challenge of some Tanga legislators from the district who casted a ballot NO to the bill.
The group who were demonstrating against Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro and his Senate partner Irungu Kang’ata’s position on the BBI argued they had been bought.
The incident however turned messy when the said youths run into the BBI critics leading to a tough battle of words leading to a fight.
The enthusiastic youth young and ready for anything descended on each other giving the town residents free but real drama.
Murang’a is home to some harshest BBI opposers including Alice Wahome (Kandara), Nyoro, and Senator Kang’ata. Kang’ata had in 2020 argued the 20202 Constitutional change Bill was not welcomed in Mt Kenya region.
In a letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta, the former Senate majority whip said the report was bound to fail. In the wake of being voted in the Senate and National Assembly, however, Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru insisted the region always speak in one voice in matters politics.
So what is your position on the BBI? Is it really about building bridges or breaking them? what’s your take
