Dog addicted to alcohol taken to ICU after owner dies TO Manage withdrawal symptoms

After the death of his owner, a Labrador mix in Plymouth, western England, was brought to a rescue shelter where he had to be treated for alcoholism. According to Woodside Animal Welfare Trust’s Facebook post, the two-year-old male named Coco arrived at their center in a very unwell state, experiencing fits. Coco had come in with another dog who also became unwell and started fitting repeatedly, but unfortunately, the other dog passed away despite the vets’ best efforts.

The shelter explained that Coco had to undergo a four-week sedation period to manage his withdrawal symptoms. Fortunately, he is now off all medication and starting a new life. However, the trust mentioned that Coco is still anxious at times, and it is unclear what happened to him and his companion before they were rescued.

As per The Telegraph, the dogs became dependent on alcohol when their previous owner left out drinks before he went to sleep. Nevertheless, Coco has been given a second chance at life, thanks to the Woodside Animal Welfare Trust’s care.

The trust has now put up an adoption page for Coco and is looking for someone locally to give him a loving home at the shelter so that they can continue monitoring his well-being. The trust emphasized that without their care, Coco would likely not have survived this heartbreaking ordeal.
