On Sunday, April 2nd, 2023, reports from reliable sources indicate that a secret meeting was held between Raila Odinga, the leader of Azimio La Umoja, and William Ruto. This meeting resulted in the cancellation of the planned Azimio La Umoja demonstrations scheduled for Monday, April 3rd, 2023.
Both Raila Odinga and William Ruto failed to attend the church services they were expected to attend on that day, and it has been revealed that they secretly traveled outside Nairobi and held a meeting at Masaai Mara. The primary objective of this meeting was to find an amicable solution to address their differences.
According to KTN News, the two agreed to resolve the Azimio La Umoja issues in a bipartisan manner, using the constitution and through parliament. The IEBC commissioners’ issue was to be taken back to parliament, and both Azimio and Kenya Kwanza were to be involved in the selection and vetting process.
In addition, during the meeting, William Ruto agreed to the formation of the office of the leader of opposition, and the process is expected to be completed soon. The two leaders also discussed how they would handle the issue of opening the server, which had been pressured by Raila. Raila demanded the release of Azimio La Umoja leaders and supporters who had been arrested, and the Dpp Nordin Hajji has already started withdrawing their cases.
After the secret meeting, William Ruto held a press conference, urging Raila Odinga to call off the demonstrations. A few hours later, Raila Odinga also held a press conference, agreeing to cancel the demonstrations and engage in dialogue with Kenya Kwanza camp.
