Dennis Itumbi, President William Ruto’s Digital Strategist, TikToker Azziad Nasenya, and musicians Akothee and Wahu Kagwi have been selected for the recently established Talanta Hela Council. This council, which will serve for a period of three years and be chaired by Youth Affairs, Sports, and Arts Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, is divided into two technical committees: Sports and Creatives.
A Gazette notice dated February 10th stated that the council was formed in response to the government’s plans to revitalize the Sports and Creative Economy through the Talanta Hela initiative, as proclaimed by the President on December 12th, 2022.
The Sports Technical Committee, led by Carol Radul, will comprise of 11 members, including Kevin Mutai, Alfred Makotsi, Boniface Ambani, and more. This committee will be responsible for proposing legislative and policy measures to promote the growth of sports, utilizing digital platforms to identify and nurture talent, and supporting Kenya’s efforts to host international sporting events.
The Creatives Technical Committee, led by Churchill (Comedian Daniel Ndambuki), will consist of 10 members, including Jimmi Gathu, Azziad Nasenya, and Rosemary Wahu Kagwi. The Council will also have representation from the Principal Secretary of the State Department of Youth Affairs and the Arts, the Principal Secretary of the State Department of Basic Education, and the Council of Governors.
