DCI has completed investigations into Jeff Mwathi murder

The investigation into the murder of interior designer Jeff Mwathi has been completed by detectives, who have sent the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for further instruction. The Directorate of Criminal Investigation announced via Twitter that new evidence provided by the state Pathologist and state Chemist, following a post-mortem examination of the body, prompted a fresh investigation.

Mwathi, who was only 23 years old, died under suspicious circumstances on February 22, 2023. Initial reports suggested suicide, claiming that the young architect had jumped to his death from his friend’s tenth-floor apartment in Kasarani, Nairobi. However, his family disputed this and urged the Minister of Internal Security, Kithure Kindiki, to order homicide detectives from the DCI to take over the case and uncover the true circumstances surrounding Mwathi’s death.

On March 31, the body was exhumed, and a fresh autopsy was conducted at the grave site located in Mwathi’s parents’ home in Likia, Nakuru County. This was after a preliminary police investigation determined that the cause of death was suicide. The police were also interested in discovering whether Jeff had been sexually abused before his death.

After the investigation, the case file was completed and forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for review and advice.
