CS Alfred Mutua has brought to light the deceptive treatment of Kenyan girls working in Saudi Arabia. His revelation comes after a number of female workers in the Gulf region sought help due to the difficulties they faced. Mutua stated that the lack of training on the use of modern household items was a major concern that needs addressing.

Additionally, he clarified that the bad images portrayed are of women who violate their contracts and do not follow the guidelines that provide them with medical coverage and protection. If they attempt to escape their work, they risk deportation and cannot report their illness. The Cabinet Secretary pointed out that women are often enticed with the promise of easy money in the form of sensual and sexual services, which are more profitable.

He revealed that Kenyan cartels are running these businesses covertly in Saudi Arabia. Mutua emphasized that the root of the problem lies in Kenya’s flawed and corrupt system of preparing domestic workers for employment overseas, as well as the inadequate follow-up of Kenyans upon arrival in foreign countries. He believes that until this issue is resolved, the problems faced by Kenyans abroad will persist.
