Citizen TV journalist John Wanyama has resigned from Royal Media Services (RMS) as he prepares to pursue a political career ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Wanyama, who was based in Eldoret, submitted his resignation on July 3, 2026, giving the media company one month’s notice. His final day at the organisation was August 4.

In his resignation, the journalist said he had decided to leave the newsroom to seek public office by contesting the Malava parliamentary seat.

Wanyama said the decision followed careful consideration and marked the beginning of a new chapter in his career. He expressed his desire to serve the people of Malava through politics after years of working in journalism.

The journalist joined Royal Media Services in 2013 and spent years covering news across the Rift Valley region. During his time at the media house, he rose to become a senior correspondent and became a familiar face to viewers in the region.

Wanyama also expressed appreciation to his colleagues and the management of RMS for the support, guidance and opportunities he received throughout his career.

Royal Media Services formally accepted his resignation in a letter dated July 14, confirming August 4 as his final working day.

His departure adds to a growing list of Kenyan journalists who have left the media industry to pursue elective positions ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wanyama will now turn his attention to the Malava parliamentary race, where he is expected to campaign for the support of voters as he seeks to make the transition from journalist to politician.

His move marks a major shift from reporting on political events to seeking a direct role in leadership and public service.
