A Catholic priest who served as the parish priest at St. Peter’s Church in Ruai has reportedly passed away after losing consciousness in a hotel in Murang’a County.
According to a police report, Fr. Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku, 43, checked into the hotel on Friday night in the company of a 32-year-old woman.
The report stated, “One Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku, also known as, aged 43 years old, a Catholic priest in the Archdiocese of Nairobi and a farmer in the Mangu area, checked into the mentioned hotel with his girlfriend, who is also his colleague at their workplace in Ruai.”
Around 8 am on Saturday, the woman informed the hotel management that Kariuki was experiencing dizziness and had lost consciousness, prompting them to seek medical assistance at a nearby hospital.
“They immediately transported him to Kenol hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival while still inside his black Toyota Harrier vehicle,” the report further detailed.
Police noted that Fr. Kariuki’s body was discovered partially covered with a hotel bedsheet, with white foam emanating from the mouth and nose.
The deceased priest’s body has been transferred to Mater Hospital mortuary in Nairobi, awaiting autopsy and further police investigation.
