Bolt and the Mombasa County Government have launched a new programme aimed at helping 400 experienced delivery riders obtain National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) licences.
The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Licensing Programme was launched at Tononoka Social Hall on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
Under the initiative, participating riders will undergo 21 days of training at an accredited driving school before taking the required assessment for licensing.
The programme is designed to recognise skills riders have gained through experience while giving them an opportunity to meet the formal requirements needed to operate legally.
Once licensed, the riders will have opportunities to take on a wider range of jobs, including parcel and courier services, beyond food deliveries.
Bolt Public Policy Manager Benjamin Sulle said riders must demonstrate certified competence before receiving their licences, making the training an important part of the process.
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir said the programme would provide riders with a formal pathway to certification while supporting the county’s wider transport plans.
The initiative follows a partnership between Bolt and the Mombasa County Government that was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding signed in January 2026.
As part of the partnership, Bolt has committed Ksh1.5 million towards rider and driver compliance, training, licensing and the digitisation of transport businesses in Mombasa.
The programme is expected to help experienced riders gain recognised qualifications while improving compliance and safety within the city’s growing delivery and transport sector.
