Billionaire Hasmukh Patel owner of Mombasa Cement is Dead

Hasmukh Kanji Patel, the renowned owner of Mombasa Cement and a prominent philanthropist, has passed away. Patel was known for his numerous charity projects across Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale counties.

The sad news was officially announced by Tudor MCA Samir Bhaloo, who spoke on behalf of the family at Pandya Memorial Hospital, where Patel’s body was taken for preservation ahead of burial rites.

“It is very sad today to announce the death of Mr. Hasmukh Kanji Patel. The CEO of Mombasa Cement has left us,” Bhaloo said. He stated that Patel, aged 58, passed away at around 1 pm. Further details regarding the funeral arrangements will be communicated after consultations with the family.

Bhaloo noted that Patel was not hospitalized and had been at home at the time of his death, making the sudden loss even more shocking. “He had a stomachache. It is God’s work. Let’s pray for him,” he added.

Patel was deeply involved in community service, running several charity projects that benefited hundreds of thousands of residents in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale counties. He was notably behind the feeding program at Kibarani Miracle Park, a site he helped rejuvenate from a dumpsite on the directive of former President Uhuru Kenyatta. The program was feeding at least 40,000 people daily.

Additionally, Patel supported a hospital program at the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital, where his company would cover bills for patients unable to pay. He also assisted families who could not afford decent coffins for their loved ones by providing them with transportation to various parts of the country.

Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir expressed his condolences in a tweet on Thursday afternoon, mourning Patel’s death. “We have learnt with sadness the passing of businessman Hasmukh Patel of Mombasa Cement Limited in Mombasa,” Nassir tweeted.

He praised Patel for his active involvement in societal affairs in Mombasa and his generous support for the underprivileged. “I take this opportunity on behalf of the county government of Mombasa to offer deepest condolences to the family of the departed,” Nassir said.

Patel’s legacy as a businessman and philanthropist will be remembered by many, leaving an indelible mark on the communities he served.
