Babu Owino Mentions Possibility of 2027 Presidential Bid with MP Ndindi Nyoro as Running Mate

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has sparked conversations after suggesting he might consider a presidential run in 2027, potentially with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as his running mate.

Speaking during an interview on Hot 96 FM, Babu highlighted the idea of forming a strong leadership team with Nyoro, whom he praised for his performance in Parliament. He also mentioned a list of leaders he respects, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Edwin Sifuna, James Orengo, Eugene Wamalwa, Gladys Wanga, Irungu Kang’ata, and George Natembeya.

“It all depends on the decisions we make with my brother Ndindi, who is doing an excellent job. If we chose to run for the presidency, I believe we could do it confidently,” Babu said during the radio show.

During the interview, the MP also raised concerns over service delivery and infrastructure projects in Nairobi. He referenced a World Bank-funded project worth Ksh.380 million meant to improve roads in Embakasi East, Mathare, and Roysambu constituencies, claiming that some contractors had abandoned the projects.

“The roads were to be improved, but nothing is going on at the sites. It’s important for relevant authorities to follow up and ensure the public benefits from such funds,” he noted.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Babu Owino hinted at being open to different leadership roles, including running for president or Nairobi governor.

“My supporters have been encouraging me to go for a bigger seat. I believe I am ready and qualified to take on greater responsibility,” he said.

Babu also shared his views on the country’s current leadership, stating that he had hoped for more significant progress since 2022. However, he expressed confidence that voters will make their voices heard in the upcoming general elections.
