Frances Kuria, a resident of Murang’a, has opened up about the curiosity and attention his family received after the birth of his child—simply because he has albinism while his wife has a normal skin tone. People from the neighborhood flocked to their home, eager to see if the newborn had inherited albinism.
Frances revealed that he was born into a family of five children. Among them, three boys—including himself—were born with albinism, while the two girls had normal skin tones. Growing up, Frances faced numerous challenges, particularly in school, where some teachers treated him unfairly. Despite the discrimination, he remained focused and consistently performed well academically.
After completing his Form Four studies, Frances moved to Nairobi to live with his father and started working. While in the city, he encountered many women who were only interested in his money, leading to heartbreak and wasted time.
Eventually, he met a woman who accepted and loved him genuinely. The couple had a beautiful wedding and soon after were blessed with a child. When the baby was born, people swarmed their home, curious to know if the child had albinism. To their surprise, the baby was born with a normal skin tone.
Frances has since used his experience to advocate for inclusivity and respect for people living with disabilities and deformities. He urges the public to treat everyone with dignity, reminding them that no one chooses the condition they are born with.
