A 17-year-old boy, identified as David Chege, has been arrested and is currently being held in police custody for damaging an aircraft belonging to a local businessman in Gilgil, Nakuru county. The incident took place on Friday, March 24, when Chege allegedly sneaked into the ranch located in Ndume area at around 9:30 am.
According to the owner of the ranch, Peter White, Chege made his way into the hangar where a light aircraft was parked. The plane, with registration number 5Y-AZA and make PA25, is used for spraying crops on local farms. Chege boarded the plane, started the engine and attempted to take off, but hit the edge of a live fence which caused the engine to go off. As a result, the propeller and front curling of the plane were damaged, although Chege escaped unhurt.
The police were notified and Chege was apprehended and detained at Gilgil Police station for questioning. The suspect is aiding the police with their investigations.
